Satisfied with the general placement of the characters, I now begin to flesh them out. Since it's a party, I add more people to the line and another observer in the foreground. To give it the feel of a home, I add base board lines and decide to put an entry into another room (kitchen, perhaps?) where food is being served. These are not essential elements to the drawing, but for me, they add to the feel that these people are at a typical home enjoying a fun party. You'll also notice that I've roughed in the Centaur's thought balloon with the "I haven't got a prayer" text. The faces of the individuals are beginning to take shape, too.
